Who are you?
This is a question we each need to ask ourselves.... Who am I really? Because knowing who you are.... Your identity influences how you react/respond to situations around you. Your identity is what determines how you influence/impact those in your life and around you.
People often believe that our name is our identity, as much as a name is used to identify a person or thing.... Identity also goes beyond the physical characteristic of a person or thing.
Let's start by defining the term Identity.. Identity can be defined as the fact of being who or what a person or thing is(dictionary definition).
While a name is a word or set of words by which a person or thing is known, addressed, or referred to(dictionary definition). Your name is a symbol for physical/external recognition.
A name can either be a blessing or a curse to its bearer.
A person without an *identity* is one occupying a space or position with no intent to contribute, impact or have any effect in his/her place of existence. Let's look at the story of the fig tree.
Then He began telling them this parable: “A certain man had a fig tree that had been planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it, but did not find any; so he said to the vineyard-keeper, ‘For three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree and have found none. Cut it down! Why does it even use up the ground [depleting the soil and blocking the sunlight]?’ But he replied to him, ‘Let it alone, sir, [just] one more year until I dig around it and put in fertilizer; and if it bears fruit after this, fine; but if not, cut it down.’” LUKE 13:6-9 AMP
A lot of Christians are still in the church, hearing the word of God but has refused to act on it. So many are in church chasing after shadows and ignoring who they are and their purpose on earth... So many have gotten so many second chances in life but are yet to know who they are or why they are on earth. So many have been cut off because they have refused to bear fruit and are considered nuisance on earth.
Who am I? Why am I here?
Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life]. But all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ [making us acceptable to Him] and gave us the ministry of reconciliation [so that by our example we might bring others to Him], 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17-18 AMP
So we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us; we [as Christ’s representatives] plead with you on behalf of Christ to be reconciled to God. 2 CORINTHIANS 5:20 AMP
As Christians, born again children of God we are the representatives of Christ here on earth. We are disciples called to disciple others with the various gifts and callings God has placed in our hearts. When we received Christ in our heart by faith, our old nature was gone, completely erased and we were impacted with God's divine nature. That's why the Bible says... , we are partakers of his divine nature. We became like Christ... No more ordinary but endowed with spiritual gifts which enables us to fulfill purpose.
“ I am the true Vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that continues to bear fruit, He [repeatedly] prunes, so that it will bear more fruit [even richer and finer fruit]. Remain in Me, and I [will remain] in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself without remaining in the vine, neither can you [bear fruit, producing evidence of your faith] unless you remain in Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown out like a [broken off] branch, and withers and dies; and they gather such branches and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. JOHN 15:1-2, 4-6 AMP
When we know our identity... Who we are.... We will understand that there is a reason we are here. That is....we have a purpose. I once read a blog that says.... Identity births purpose.... You can't know what you are meant to do until you know who you are. It's a pity how Christians spend all their time chasing careers, marriage, parenting etc... Until they get to the tail end of their life and realize that all of it were vanity.
“Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher. “Vanity of vanities! All [that is done without God’s guidance] is vanity [futile, meaningless--a wisp of smoke, a vapor that vanishes, merely chasing the wind].” What advantage does man have from all his work Which he does under the sun (while earthbound)? ECCLESIASTES 1:2-3 AMP
Many of us are living on *misplaced identity.* we've failed to stay connected to Christ who is the vine and so we are not bearing the fruit expected of us. We need to understand that until we reconnect back to our source, we are going to keep going in circles and soon our time will run out and we will be cut off from the earth to give account of the life we lived.
Who am I? It's time you take a look at your life again and ask the meaningful question... Who am I? Remember that the one who is irrelevant by not bearing Godly fruits can be cut off at anytime and thrown into the fire. That you are here today means you still have the opportunity to connect/reconnect to Jesus Christ and live through him.
